New guide to larval Tanytarsini in Florida
« on: June 04, 2014, 10:59:36 AM »
A new identification guide for the larval Tanytarsini (Chironomidae) of Florida is now available.  This publication considerably updates the Tanytarsini portions of Epler's 2001 manual for Southeastern Chironomidae larvae.  Several of the taxa that previously were given letter designators now sport "real" names!

Identification of these critters will still remain difficult, and for many taxa identification is not possible without associated pupae or adult males; pupal characters are supplied for many taxa to aid in identification.

This FREE manual can be downloaded from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection server at:

http://publicfiles.dep.state.fl.us/dear/labs/biology/biokeys/tanytarsini.pdf

When on the library page, download "Tanytarsini.pdf".
