† Patrick J. Ashe
18 March 1954 - 19 June 2022

For those of you who have not heard this already, I am extremely sad but have to report that Paddy Ashe passed away on 19 June after fighting illness for three quarters of a year. Apologies for not offering more details at this time; I will update this message when feasible.

Many among us will painfully miss and never forget Paddy's presence as a kind human being and friendly colleague always ready to cooperate or share his findings. In the scientific record of chironomid research, he has earned an eternal place by investing decades of often very tedious work in finding thousands of more or less hidden data items and compiling them in standard references fundamentally essential to our field (e.g., his World Catalogue volumes with James O'Connor 2009 and 2012).

Farewell, dear friend - may we meet again, in the garden of a stream-side pub in the sky !

Various topics / Looking for Chironomid species...
Last post by liofeu - June 21, 2022, 11:44:59 AM
Hi All,

I'm working on sensory systems in mosquito swarms and I'd like to rear a Chironomid species as a model to avoid any blood-feeding; this chironomid species would require to:
- make dense station-keeping mating swarms that could be elicited under laboratory conditions
- be a native species of ~Paris region where I plan to work (just to avoid any containment regulations);
- be easy reared, and possibly without over-wintering if kept at ~20°C;

Would you have any species in mind that fit with these requirements? The bigger the body size is, the better it would be for me.

Thank you very much,
All the best,
Lionel
