Thanks to Richard Cornette I have recently received a copy of the program and abstracts volume of the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae, which was organized out of Tsukuba, Japan, and  held online in 2022.

Please note that the abstracts volume is NOT a formal publication, e.g. in the sense of the nomenclature Code; thus, none of the taxon names, nomenclatural acts, etc., proposed in it are available or valid from the respective abstract.

However, the volume refers to MANY more chironomid studies than the mere handful of papers actually published in the proceedings from the same symposium (please see the CHIRONOMUS Journal of Chironomidae Research No. 37 - Special Issue, published in 2023).

Consequently, in order to disseminate the information, I have added the citations of all 47 abstracts to the Bibliography of the Chironomidae. One way to find those references is to use the following search string in the search screen's "Journal/Book/Publisher" field:  Cornette Shimura eds

Regards,

Dear colleagues,

The 21st International Symposium no Chironomidae (ISC2022) will be held online next 4-7 July 2022.
The registration is now open to public at the link below:

https://kinki-convention.jp/isc2022sp/

Please note that this is the last week for abstract submission (Deadline May 27th). Due to the tight schedule for preparing the program of the symposium, we encourage participants to register and submit their abstracts as soon as possible (please note that the deadline will not be extended).
The core time of the sessions will be set at Japanese time for direct discussions, but oral presentations will be also uploaded as video files and available throughout the period of the symposium, as for poster presentations. We believe that this system will be more comfortable for participants all around the world and thus encourage them to register for presentations.

Looking forward to share recent advances in the field of Chironomidae research with you.

Best regards,

Richard Cornette,
on behalf of ISC2022 organizing committee

Dear colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce that the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae will be held 4-7 July 2022.
The symposium was originally planned to be held in Tsukuba, Japan, but unfortunately the never-ending pandemic and Japan closing its borders have forced us to choose an online version of the symposium.
The scope of the symposium is focused on Chironomidae research, but including a wide array of topics, from systematics, ecology, biomonitoring to recent advances in genomics and applied science.
The homepage of the symposium in now available online and we will soon start registrations. Please visit our site at:
https://kinki-convention.jp/isc2022/

We hope that the symposium will yield fruitful scientific exchanges among the whole chironomid researcher community. We may have lost people in our list, so if you know researchers around you interested in chironomid research, please advertise the symposium.

We are looking forward to meeting all of you this summer at the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae!

Best regards,

Richard Cornette, on behalf of the organizing committee

Dear colleagues,

This message from Richard Cornette was just published in the Chironomus Journal of Chironomidae Research:

"The 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae was originally scheduled for Tsukuba, Japan in July 2021. However, the COVID-19 pandemic is far from ending and Tokyo Summer Olympic Games were postponed to 2021. Many international conferences including the International Congress of Entomology or the Congress of the International Society of Limnology were also reported to next year. The organizing committee wishes to welcome the whole community of chironomid researchers to Tsukuba under safer and the best possible conditions. For this reason, the organizing committee decided to postpone the symposium to summer 2022. As many colleagues agreed, a physical meeting will yield more fruitful exchanges in our field rather than an online symposium. This is also one point that motivated our decision to postpone the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae to 2022. As soon as the new dates for the Symposium are fixed, we will make a new announcement in the Chironomus Journal, on the Chironomid Home Page and in the Chironomidae list server (chironomidae@vm.ntnu.no).

We wish you all good health and look forward to welcome all of you in Tsukuba!"

Dear colleagues,

This is a pre-announcement for the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae that will be held in Tsukuba, Japan.

Due to the coincidence with the Summer Olympic Games of Tokyo in 2020, the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae will be irregularly postponed to 2021.

We expect to organize the symposium between the 4th and the 10th of July, 2021.

This period usually coincides with the end of the rainy season, but before the hottest heatwave of Japanese summer. So we would like to welcome a large number of Chironomid researchers in relatively comfortable conditions.

Tsukuba is a science city located at 1 hour from Tokyo-Narita international airport and about 2 hours from Tokyo-Haneda international airport, by bus.

We will provide more information in the future, but please note the dates of the Symposium in your agenda.

Sincerely,

Richard CORNETTE (on behalf of the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae organizing staff)
