Solutions for mounting in Canada Balsam

Before mounting in balsam, I use KOH when needed to clear specimens, then I wash in CH3COOH, then I have substituted butanol with a mixture of phenol 3 : xylol 1.

Xylol ameliorates the final results, but unfortunately it is toxic.

Do any of you have experience with this substitution ?
