Dear colleague,

Tang & Cranston (2019 in Raffles Bulletin of Zoology 67: 684-693) recently established the tribe Chironominae - Xiaomyiini, which currently includes the genera Xiaomyia Sæther & Wang, 1993 and Shangomyia Sæther & Wang, 1993. One of the diagnostic characteristics of adults of both sexes in this tribe is that the leg ratios (length of tarsomere 1 / length of tibia) are substantially greater than 1 on all legs, and especially so on the mid and hind legs.

If you are aware of any chironomid adult other than those in Xiaomyiini that shows similar leg ratios, please let me know by sending e-mail to spies@snsb.de.

Thanks and best wishes,
