Moubayed, J., Langton, P. H. (2025) On the genus Einfeldia Kieffer from France. Description of E. aberlencii sp. n. from French Guiana with emendation of four recently described species from continental France (Diptera, Chironomidae). Ephemera 26: 1-9. [publd 2.i.2025]
[NOTE: The four previously proposed species mentioned in the title were described - in chronological sequence - as Polypedilum (Uresipedilum) tissoti Moubayed-Breil & Langton, 2020; P. (U.) bernardae Moubayed-Breil, 2020 and P. (U.) claudei Moubayed-Breil, 2020; and P. (U.) alixae Moubayed & Langton, 2022. In the new paper, all of these names are transferred to Einfeldia, but the authors chose to interpret the latter in a very wide sense, i.e. apparently including genus-level taxa such as Chironomus (Lobochironomus) that have been recognized for decades by most other authors. Judging from Moubayed et al.'s relevant publications, and from supposed type specimens of theirs, at least several of the 5 species in question here, notably including the one from French Guiana, appear to belong to Chironomus rather than to Einfeldia in a recent, restricted sense. It does remain possible that wider and deeper analyses of molecular data from this complex of taxa might bring substantial changes to the latter system and corresponding nomenclature. It looks highly unlikely, however, that such results will revalidate Einfeldia sensu antiquo as used in the present paper.]
